As charities seek to get more donors, it is more beneficial for these non-profits to understand how and why different demographics give. In general, most people will give because it the right the thing to do, they want to be impactful and for the belief in the cause.
According to a report done by the global web index, most donors aged between 16 and 24 years; stated the reason they give is because they view it as a matter of a moral obligation. More precisely, the group will want to give to leave a mark in someone’s life.
Aside from age differences, giving can also be impacted by how precise a donation is about the victim. A study done by researchers in the University of Pennsylvania showed that there was a significant difference in contribution between donations given to an anonymous beneficially versus an identifiable beneficiary.
Gender will also affect donation patterns mostly because of the difference between emotionally led decisions by women and logic led choices by men. By non-profits understanding how donations are given and why, their donation base could be more intentional.
